Today we’re rolling out a new feature on moovee.me - something that we believe will radically improve your experience when it comes to reading reviews and finding nice people to follow. In this post we’ll explain how it works and why we think it is so cool!
WHAT ARE REVIEW SCORES?

Some reviews are more useful than others. That’s a fact, and the users of moovee.me want to be able to quickly find the best ones when deciding whether or not to watch a movie. In fact, that’s the most requested feature in our UserVoice Forum. Review Scores are our answer to that request. It’s very simple: everytime you read a review, you’ll be able to “judge” it by clicking a thumbs-up or thumbs-down icon. Doing that will increase (or decrease) that review’s score by 1 point - and you can guess the rest: reviews that get higher scores will appear first on a movie page, while the ones that have a weaker score will be pushed down on the list.
WHAT ABOUT THE KARMA SYSTEM?
If you’re an incredible writer and your reviews consistently score high, you’re probably a very good person to be followed. But how can other users learn about that without having to sift through a lot of movie pages thinking “hey, this guy’s reviews always get a good score”? That’s what the Karma System is about. Every time one of your reviews is “judged” by a user, you will get a little bit of positive or negative Karma. Other actions you take on the site can also have a positive or negative impact on your Karma - for example, helping us spot offensive reviews will earn you some points, while filing bogus reports may end up making you lose a few. Go ahead, play with the site and see how that impacts your rating! :)
You’re probably wondering why we chose the name “Karma” instead of simply calling it “User Score” or something like that. Well, the idea is that Karma is a PERMANENT thing. If you write a review and it gets a lot of love from other users, that will permanently add to your Karma, even if for some reason you choose to delete that review in the future. Also, if you edit a significant portion of your review, its score will be reset to zero - but any Karma you gained or lost in the “original” version of that review will not be forgotten.
HOW DOES KARMA AFFECT MY EXPERIENCE ON THE SITE?

If you have a very high Karma, you will have a much better chance of being one of our “Top Users” - this ranking used to only consider the number of reviews written by each user, but we’ve changed it so that it weighs in user Karma as well. Being a “Top User” is probably the best way to be recognized as a “movie expert” and to get more followers. Also, users with a VERY high Karma get other perks, such as a better chance of participating in the beta testing of new features on the site!
On the other hand, a low Karma will cause you to drop on the “Top Users” ranking - and a VERY low Karma can also cause your reviews not to appear in the Homepage timeline, for example. Be a good guy and you won’t have any trouble ;)
WRAPPING UP
We hope you enjoy these new features and take some time to experiment with them - and as usual, feel free to add your own ideas by clicking the “Feedback” tab on moovee.me!
Since we’ve reached the 45 thousand reviews mark, we will present you something that some of our beta testers were already testing: the facebook integration.
Ok, ok. There was no relation between the 45k mark and this feature but how could I tell you about this otherwise?
It’s not like the twitter integration (yet!) which lets you search your twitter friends with a linked moovee.me account but this facebook integration lets you post your full reviews on your Facebook wall.
So follow these easy steps:
1- Log in to moovee.me
2- Click on Settings
3- Click on the Social tab
4- Click on the Facebook link and authorize it on Facebook

5- That’s it.
If the Facebook button doesn’t appear on the review box, please clean your cache (Ctrl+R on Windows OR Cmd+R on Mac) and then both icons (twitter & facebook) should appear like the example below.

After this you should be able to post your reviews in their full glory on the Facebook wall just like this example:

Hope you like it! We have many other exciting features coming soon too, so stay tuned and keep on mooveen’ ;)

Today, moovee.me completes its first month online. This is great and we’d like to thank you all for being part of this. We couldn’t expect to have almost 40.000 reviews in such short period.
We’ve been doing a lot of things to make the service better. The next one will be the
Facebook integration - you’ll be able to post you reviews to your Facebook wall, similar to what we have for Twitter today. This will be live soon - we’re working on the final tests to make sure everything works as expected!
The image below shows one ot these tests:

Hope you like it! We have many other exciting features coming soon too, so stay tuned and keep on mooveen’ ;)
How to post and edit a review on moovee.me.
Thanks to Charles Cade and Silvia Bassi for the suggestion of making a video tutorial instead of a simple text tutorial.

We just changed the rating system on moovee.me. Now you can rate a movie from FAIL to EPIC. We already told you that we are a geek oriented website (remember the Top 42 movies?) so this is another way to show it. We hope you will like this small change on our rating system but a big step into a better moovee.me.
This classic David Bowie song which appeared on Shrek 2 is really an appropriate one for moovee.me right now. We’ve been doing lots and lots of improvements on the site. Actually these changes are live since last week but we’ve been busy getting ready for our next release.
So, here it goes:
UserVoice Feedback tab

There is now a Feedback tab on the right side of every page on moovee.me where everyone can give suggestions, complain about something and vote on other users’ suggestions. We are keeping an eye on it so we can decide what we will develop based on your requests too.
Top 42 Movies
Check the ranking of the Top 42 movies. Why 42? Well, there’s a reason for that and you’ll have to see it with your own eyes. But if you’re a geek or sci-fi fan you probably can guess it. Here in moovee.me we’re “geek oriented” so expect these little easter eggs.
Top Users by number of reviews and By number of followers

So you can check the users that everyone is following and see if their movie taste is as good as yours. ;)
Followers and Following list tweaks
We’re trying to make people’s life easier when it comes to finding and following friends. Last week, we added a “find your Twitter friends on moovee.me” link on the social tab, which is really great to get you started on the site. We also added user search. Now we’re going one step further by improving the “Followers” and “Following” pages for every user on the site.
These pages are accessible by clicking the “View All” links on any user profile - and the best part about the new layout is that you can easily follow and unfollow people right from those lists. That means you can see a list of people a friend of yours is following, for example, and quickly follow the ones you know too. Well, you get the picture.
Quick add to wishlist

You may have noticed every movie cover on the site now has a “+” tab on the upper left corner (you have to be logged in to see this). If you click that icon, that movie will be instantly added to your wishlist - right there, like that. My own wishlist has doubled ever since that feature was added ;)
Layout changes:
Phewww… I guess this is it for now. But I might be wrong too - there’s so much going on in the last couple weeks that we’re working a lot to give you the best possible service. And if we haven’t answered your email yet, watch a movie and wait a little while. We’ll be answering all emails until tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks for all your feedback, and also for using the site! :)
It’s good to have you on moovee.me. Keep mooveen’!
Some people are obsessed about following others - Cristopher Nolan actually made a movie about them. But what about the rest of us, the people who are obsessed about being followed? If you’re one of these, we have some good news for you.
We have now started sending e-mails to people whenever they get new followers on moovee.me. That way, you’ll always know who’s watching your steps, reading your reviews and listening to your advice.
Of course, if you don’t really care about who’s following you, there’s a way to turn off those pesky e-mails. That option can be found in your Account Settings at moovee.me.
Thanks for your suggestions! Let’s keep mooveen’!
Louise is the first user to try something creative on moovee.me. Her reviews are basically quotes from the movies she is reviewing. Very nice.
I am already following her. What about you?
She is a moovee.me star.
If you know any one who should be a moovee.me star, send us an email or a Twitter Direct Message with the link to the profile and we will check it out.
